Peer-assisted Periodic Broadcasting of Videos |

The increasing of streaming application and wide variety of devices such as handheld personal organizers brings us new challenge to be addressed, such as providing access to multimedia content for devices with limited computing and bandwidth capability. In this paper we propose an technique for works on Periodic Broadcasting (PB), our technique allow clients with low bandwidth capability even below the video bitrate to be served in the same period as high bandwidth clients, using peer-to-peer streaming between clients. In the proposed system, server builds multicast trees of clients that allow client with low bandwidth served by other clients with sufficient upload bandwidth. As for clients that below the video bitrate, they should suffer from additional delay that occur as video is converted to lower quality. This delay is fixed based on client’s desired quality and capability. We demonstrate our simulation using extensive simulation to show that our system can provide better service performance for heterogeneous clients on PB protocols. |

Video Streaming over Peer-to-Peer Networks |

Peer-to-Peer(P2P) has attracted attention as an alternative way to enable streaming videos on the Internet Although P2P systems depend on bandwidth contribution from peers, peers are likely to refuse to contribute their bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a P2P streaming system that encourages peers to contribute their upstream bandwidth by maintaining fairness among peers and providing different providing different QoS between cooperative peers and selfish peers with smooth service degradation. We equipped our system with mechanism for handling leaving peer to increase its reliability. Cooperative peers will get backup connection to prevent them from experience connection lost because of leaving peer. The backup connnection works as incentive for cooperative peer. |
